Afghans cast their ballots in 6,500 polling stations across the country on Thursday, despite Taliban threats to attack voters [AFP]

Lengthy ballot papers list 41 presidential candidates and feature their pictures to help illiterate Afghans. A number of candidates have pulled out of the race since the ballots were printed [AFP]
Voters must present identity cards and have their fingers marked with indelible ink to prevent them from casting multiple ballots [AFP]
