The first crane entered the site early on Sunday morning.
One resident, Fikriya Hassan Mohaamed, 67, fears she is now a widow after spending hours trying to locate her husband. "Policemen forced me out of the site and now I have nowhere to go and there’s no way for me to know whether he is dead or alive."
Another resident, Ashraf Bayoumi, 37, said: "I went to the police station on Sunday asking to be relocated to another apartment building and they told me to come back once my apartment building falls down."
