Egyptians left to suffer after rockfall

But Saturday's rockfall has resulted in fears that over 500 people died in the tragedy.

The first crane entered the site early on Sunday morning.

One resident, Fikriya Hassan Mohaamed, 67, fears she is now a widow after spending hours trying to locate her husband. "Policemen forced me out of the site and now I have nowhere to go and there’s no way for me to know whether he is dead or alive."

Another resident, Ashraf Bayoumi, 37, said: "I went to the police station on Sunday asking to be relocated to another apartment building and they told me to come back once my apartment building falls down."

Mensheyat Nasr, a makeshift neighbourhoud and garbage dump for Cairo's poorest people, has now become the site of one of Cairo's biggest tragedies.
