The Turkish film Winter Sleep is being touted as the favourite to win the top prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
It tells the story of a powerful, wealthy man, who dreams of playing God. But the main character has a skewed moral compass and tries to control the destinies of his subjects.
Some are interpreting the film as a metaphor for current issues in the country, like freedom of speech. But the film’s producers deny this claim.
