Survivor details horror of 1972 Andes crash

One of survivors who resorted to cannibalism speaks with Al Jazeera on 40th anniversary of crash.

Carlos “Carlitos” Paez is one of the survivors of a plane crash in the Andes mountain range 40 years ago.

Paez and 12 other survivors famously had to resort to cannibalism in order to stay alive for 72 days.

A Hollywood film, “Alive”, was based on their story.

Paez, known as the “Man of Iron Spirit”, recalled the experience and described how his life has moved on since the crash on October 13, 1972.
