After a year of economic reforms, Cuba marks the 53rd anniversary of its communist revolution.

The latest reforms saw carpenters, locksmiths and photographers able to operate independently of the state, but many Cubans feel that this is insufficient.

President Raul Castro’s decision not to ease its tight curbs on migration and other laws on the island has left many Cubans disappointed.
