In one of the most complex transplant surgeries ever performed, an international team of surgeons in California have restored the voice of a woman who had been unable to speak for more than a decade.
The successful team of surgeons replaced the larynx (also known as the voice box), thyroid gland and trachea in 52-year-old Brenda Jensen who had lost her ability to speak and breathe on her own.
Jensen is only the second person in the world to undergo a rare voice box transplant.
