Interview: Daniel Barenboim

On its tenth anniversary, the conductor speaks about the orchestra he created made up of both Arab and Israeli youths.

Ten years ago the influential conductor Daniel Barenboim set out to create an orchestra that would promote understanding in the Middle East.

Today, his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, made up of Arabs and Israelis, is celebrated as a ground-breaking collaboration between youths from both sides.

The orchestra is currently touring Europe to mark their tenth anniversary.

Al Jazeera’s Felicity Barr spoke to Barenboim in London.
