Somalia battles to get guns off its streets

Disarmament campaign attempts to rid Somalia of more than 500,000 guns that have plagued the country for 24 years.

Somalia is awash with military-grade weaponry, much of it in the hands of illiterate teenagers.

Estimates suggest there are more than 500,000 guns in the country, which has been largely lawless for the last 24 years. 

Getting those guns off the streets is a priority for African Union troops charged with keeping the peace.
