German to swim Rhine to help environment

Professor hopes to use money raised from 1,200km journey to study the impact of human activity on ecological systems.

A university professor is swimming the entire length of the Rhine in a bid to raise money to fund research to protect ecological systems in the river.

Andreas Fath, who is making the 1,200km journey, hopes the money he receives will help find ways of reducing the impact of human activity on fish and organisms.

Al Jazeera’s Nadim Baba reports from the Germany-Netherlands border.
