Turkish lira falls to record low

The currency slips fast against the US dollar, leading to more expensive imports and fears of rising unemployment.

The value of the Turkish lira is sinking fast against the US dollar.

Foreign imports are more expensive, inflation is set to rise, businesses are struggling to pay foreign debt and this is expected to translate to higher unemployment rates in the future.

Turkey is still reeling from a summer of violent protests and a high-level corruption probe.
