US plans carbon restrictions on power plants
Environmental agency proposes carbon pollution standards that will apply to new plants in bid to combat climate-change.

The US Environmental Protection Agency has announced carbon pollution standards that will apply to new power plants built in the United States.
Under the proposal, new large natural gas-fired turbines would need to meet a limit of 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per megawatt hour, while new small natural gas-fired turbines would need to meet a limit of 1,100 pounds of CO2 per megawatt hour.
It is the first step in President Obama’s plan to combat climate-change.
But the coal industry says consumers will pay the price due to higher utility bills for households and businesses.
