Australia ski resort feels carbon tax pinch
Disputed policy increases power costs on mountain, but also keeps it cool by slowing down global warming.

The Australian government says a new “carbon tax” helps reduce emissions, whereas the main opposition party says the only thing being brought down is the economy.
A ski resort gets to the nub of the issue: It’s energy-intensive to run the Hotham Alpine resort, with its 84 snow-making machines and 13 lifts that use electricity costing $250,000 a season.
