Uphill task to change US paid leave law

Corporate influence seen as biggest impediment to getting companies to provide employees with paid holidays.

Companies in the US are not required by law to provide employees with any paid holidays at all.

Almost a quarter of the country’s workforce, mostly lower-income employees, are not given any time off in the year. Businesses also do not have to give paid sick days off or parental leave.

Some politicians are lobbying for a change to the law, but it is unlikely to happen due to the heavy influence of big businesses.
