Ukraine explores energy independence
European country attempting to increase domestic energy production to decrease dependence on Russian imports.

Ukraine, once part of the Soviet Union, is trying to step away from its dependence on Russia as an energy supplier.
Leaders of the gas industry think this exploration could pay off with billions of cubic metres of natural gas. The country has signed a deal to search for natural gas, even Russian gas giant Gazprom warned that it might interrupt supplies to protest the move.
