Indian workers seek safety rights in Qatar

Migrant labourers call for more protection and better treatment following reports of deaths in summer heat.

It is still nine years away but Qatar is preparing to host the 2022 football World Cup. The massive building boom required for the event needs an army of construction workers.

But recent reports of dozens dying in the intense summer heat has focused attention on worker safety in the country.

Labour workers from India are among those calling for more protection rights in the Gulf nation.

Al Jazeera’s Nidhi Dutt reports from Kerala in southern India, where many labourers are recruited to work in Qatar.
