S Koreans bank on beating unemployment
New national bank initiative aims to create jobs in bid to battle spiralling youth unemployment.
In South Korea, the youth unemployment rate is double the national average.
Many young Koreans find it difficult to find a job after they graduate.
So Yoo Ran, a 24-year-old college graduate, for example, could not keep a full-time job after leaving college.
South Korea’s Youth Union is stepping in to help, with a bank initiative aimed at helping to reduce youth unemployment.
“Up until June, I was still looking for a job, but I couldn’t find one I liked. So I started to volunteer at that Youth Solidarity Bank, in a sense to hang out. But now I get paid, doing something I love to do,” So told Al Jazeera.
