Egypt is launching new initiatives to get international visitors back to its historic sites.

Tourism is the second most important industry for Egypt after agriculture – one in eight people make a living from it.

But the revolution in Egypt has caused a serious downturn in the number of foreign visitors. There is a new desire to involve surrounding communities in the country’s iconic sites.
