Bolivian strikers clash with police

Thousands of striking Bolivian workers have marched through La Paz, marking the launch of a three-day strike to show solidarity with health workers who have been protesting against the government for over a month over a proposed law to increase work hours.

Miners are said to have joined the strike, and allegedly set off dynamite during the protest.

Police fired tear gas at the marchers before they reached the presidential palace.

Protesters said the group would keep up pressure on the government until Bolivian President Evo Morales backed down from the proposal they say requires more hours without enough pay.

Last week Morales said he would suspend the proposed law, but many protesters say they want it scrapped altogether.
