In Richmond, a city in the US state of California with 17 per cent unemployment, many jobless are turning to community co-operative ventures, or “co-ops”, to create new economic opportunities.

By pooling their talents and resources, residents in one of America’s most dangerous cities, are hoping to lure new businesses and opportunities.
