Venezuelan state oil firm criticised

Venezuela has relied on profits from the state oil company to fund welfare programmes across the country.

These programmes have helped boost the popularity of President Hugo Chavez over the past 13 years.

However, after a series of recent oil spills, the company has come under intense criticism.
