New York moves to combat obesity
US city steps up efforts to make healthy foods more accessible as fast food chains dominate diets.

The World Health Organisation descibes obesity as a global epidemic – with hundreds of millions of people suffering from it worldwide.
In New York, one of many US states where fatty and conveniently cheap fast food restaurant chains are a major cause for the country’s rising obesity rates, organisations are using various ways to make healthy meals more accessible to the public.
But to tackle the problem more effectively, experts say the government must subsidise healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, instead of popular fast food companies.
