Doomsday frenzy boosts tourism in Mexico

‘Mayan Apocalypse’ has renewed interest in ancient and pre-Hispanic cultures in Latin America.

The end of the world is nigh – at least according to some followers of the ancient Maya calendar.
They are following a Maya prophecy, found carved on a stone 1,300 years ago. But others think it refers only to the start of a new era.
Fact or fiction, the hype surrounding the so-called Mayan Apocalypse is causing a boom in tourism especially for Mexico.
