France faces jobs crisis

Government feels pressure before elections as unemployment hits France’s youth population hard.

Frustrations are growing in France over an unemployment rate that has almost reached 10 per cent.

In a bid to calm nerves, French President Nicolas Sarkozy is holding a summit to address joblessness, but many seem unconvinced by his ability to tackle the crisis.

The situation is especially stark for young people, and looks set to be a key issue in forthcoming presidential elections.
