Egypt protests

Egypt’s top government officials have called an emergency meeting on Sunday to discuss strikes by doctors, teachers and transport workers that are spreading throughout the country.

Although the first day of classes was last week, many schools have since been closed due to teachers’ demands for higher pay and education reform.

Several thousand dissatisfied public sector employees gathered in Cairo on Saturday to press for their demands.
