Britons stay home for the summer

Usually known for spending their summer holidays abroad in warmer climates, the economic crisis and austerity cuts mean many Britons are choosing to stay closer to home.

With tourists flocking to seaside resorts all over the country, one holiday-maker said, “it’s not economically viable” to go abroad.

Coastal towns like Brighton are at the forefront of the boom, re-inventing themselves as chic destinations. This year 57 percent of British people are expected to take a trip to the coast, where they are expected to spend more than $5 billion.
