China firms to curb ‘harmful internet data’
Pledge by nearly 40 companies forms part of new steps to tighten government’s control of cyberspace.

The heads of China’s largest internet companies have vowed to stop the spread of so-called harmful information. They made the promise after attending a three-day workshop organised by the government in Beijing.
Nearly 40 companies – including e-commerce giant Alibaba and search engine Baidu – say they will “curb internet rumours”.
