Nicaragua relatively unscathed by drug menace
Poverty and strong community ties leave nation less affected than regional neighbours.

Central America is the poorest region n the Western hemisphere, and it is also the most violent, largely as a result of the influence of drug gangs.
But Nicaragua, which shares many characteristics of its more violent neighbours, has not suffered the scars of drug trafficking, and locals say that strong community relations keep violence off their streets.
