Concern as Indian airlines post record losses

Financial losses at some of the largest carriers are worrying the government and leaving the airlines looking for help.

Some of India’s largest airline carriers have reported record losses and are facing an uncertain future.

The world’s airline industry has been seriously effected by the global economic crisis and the rising cost of oil.

Recent financial losses posted by some of India’s carriers have the markets worried, the government concerned and the airlines themselves looking for help.

The government has ruled out a financial bailout, knowing that tax payers would not be happy helping private companies survive at their expense. Other options include seeking foreign investment, something the authorities have rejected in the past.
