The Mexican government has admitted that it was fooled by a hoax that caused a factory worker to be mistakenly identified as the leader of a prominent drug cartel.
The innocent man’s friends found pictures on his Facebook page and posted them on YouTube, labelling them pictures of “The Engineer”, the nickname for Luis Fernando Sanchez Arellano who is connected to the brutal Tijuana cartel.
The prank lead to prosecutors posting these pictures on its website, describing the man as Fernando.
