The legacy of Mother Teresa

This week marks 100 years since the birth of Mother Teresa, the Catholic nun who dedicated her life to humanitarian missions in India as well as more than 100 other countries.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner’s most famous project is a centre in the Indian city of Kolkata that gives food, shelter and care to the critically ill who cannot afford hospital treatment.

Al Jazeera’s Barnaby Phillips reports from the Macedonian capital Skopje, the city where Mother Teresa was born.

Mother Teresa has inspired many people around the world, including Lyan Shih  from Malaysia, who founded the country’s only in-patient hospice for those in their final stages of life.

Another unsung hero is 91-year-old Inaya Essafti from Egyptian city of Alexandria who works to empower women by teaching them how to read.
