Saving the brown pelicans

Louisiana’s state bird is among the many sea creatures affected by the BP oil spill.

Gulf oil spill marine life

Hundreds of birds, among many other sea creatures and wildlife covered in crude oil, have been found dead along the US Gulf coast as a result of BP’s massive oil spill.

One of the birds affected is the brown pelican, which was only recently removed from the endangered species list.

Al Jazeera’s John Terrett was travelling with a group of fishermen in the US state of Louisiana when they came across a pelican completely soaked in oil.
