Countries that make up the G20 will become the major forum for management of the world economy.
During their meeting in the US city of Pittsburgh on Friday, they pledged to formulate tougher regulation of the banking sector and structural reforms of the International Monetary Fund.
The leaders also agreed that emerging economies should have greater voting rights in the IMF among other things.
However, the thousands of protesters outside said those responsible for the world’s financial system were still not creating an equitable global economy.
Al Jazeera’s Avi Lewis reports from the streets of Pittsburgh on what some of them had to say.
