Sareen Malik

Sareen Malik leads the African Civil Society Network for Water and Sanitation (ANEW), an umbrella organization of water and sanitation NGOs spanning over 50 countries across Africa. With over 15 years of experience in water and sanitation governance, Sareen focuses on empowering stakeholders—including civil society, governments, and the private sector—to engage meaningfully in improving WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) services and sustainable water management. Trained as a lawyer, Sareen has been widely published and has contributed to the development of governance tools, policies, and practices for both governmental and non-governmental actors in the water and sanitation field. Her advocacy work consistently highlights the importance of accountability, equity, and inclusive participation in water and sanitation services, which has culminated in legal reforms and driving home the message that effective governance is crucial for sustainable and just outcomes in the sector.
