The Israeli military said three Palestinians opened fire on an army base guarding the illegal settlement of Mevo Dotan near the town of Jenin in the northern West Bank.
Soldiers returned fire and hit all three gunmen, one of whom died on the way to an Israeli hospital, the military said.
Palestinian sources have yet to comment on the incident.
Gun battles have dropped considerably since a ceasefire between Israel and resistance groups was declared on 8 February, though 23 Palestinians have been shot dead – 11 of whom were children.
