Israel kills Palestinian in Gaza

A Palestinian has been killed by the Israeli army near the security fence separating the Gaza Strip from Israel.

3769 people have been killed since start of the intifada

Usama Yusif al-Maghari, 33, was hit on Saturday in the chest in an area east of Al-Buraij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip and died several hours later, Palestinian medical and security sources said on Saturday.

An army spokeswoman confirmed soldiers had fired on and hit a “suspect” Palestinian who was approaching the fence and was only metres away from it in a prohibited zone.

She was unable to say whether the man was armed.

Maghari’s death brings to 3769 the number of people killed since the September 2000 outbreak of the Palestinian uprising, including 2826 Palestinians and 875 Israelis.
