Two attacks on US forces in Iraq

US forces have come under two separate attacks in the Iraqi city of Samarra, north of Baghdad.

    US troops round up Iraqis in Baquba

    Witnesses told Aljazeera’s correspondent that a US military camp was targeted in the first attack on Tuesday morning. In the second incident, an explosive device hit a US patrol in the al-Mafraq area, south of Samarra, damaging a tank. 

    There is no further information available as yet.

    Iraqi arrests

    Meanwhile, US forces arrested on Tuesday morning five Iraqis suspected of being involved in anti-US attacks in the city of Baquba, northeast of Baghdad.

    Aljazeera’s correspondent said the arrests came as US forces launched search operations in the city.

    The operations come a day after a series of blasts in Baghdad which claimed the lives of 42 people and left 216 others wounded.
