The White House has defended US President Donald Trump's response to the violence in Charlottesville after he was criticised for failing to specifically condemn white supremacists.

The White House has defended US President Donald Trump's response to the violence in Charlottesville after he was criticised for failing to specifically condemn white supremacists.

A spokesperson says his vague statement on Saturday did denounce those groups.
