Kurdish independence vote causes concern in Iraq

With ISIL defeated by government forces in northern Iraq, the question of Kurdish independence could pose a new problem.

With the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group defeated by government forces in northern Iraq, the question of Kurdish independence could pose a new problem in the country.

Tensions have increased since a referendum on independence for the northern Kurdistan region was announced last month. Some fear the result of that vote could lead to another confrontation in Iraq.
