Paraguay's government is trying to find a way out of a political crisis after an attempt to change the constitution to allow the current president to be re-elected.

Protests began on Friday night after some senators met secretly to amend the constitution.

The violence has left one political activist dead.

President Horacio Cartes is now calling on political opponents to try to find common ground.

Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo reports from Asuncion.
