Chelsea lift FIFA Club World Cup title!
Chelsea manager Maresca is greeted by Infantino before Trump hands him his medal. And finally, captain James gets his medal too.
Infantino and Trump then lift the trophy off the stand and hand it to James, who lifts it in the air as Chelsea’s players erupt with joy.
Oddly, there is no confetti in the background to mark the occasion.
Chelsea receive their winners’ medal
Led by their Spanish goalkeeper, Sanchez, who was also a key player in the final, Chelsea’s players receive their medals.
Many players have the flags of their respective countries wrapped around their waists or shoulders.
One such player is their new signing, Pedro, who has the Brazilian flag around his waist. The youngster played a big role in Chelsea’s run to the final, scoring twice in the semifinals and once in the final.
PSG receive runners-up medals
Led by Marquinhos, the PSG squad walks to the stage to receive their runners-up medals from US President Trump and FIFA chief Infantino.
Manager Enrique is the last to receive his medal, and he walks off the stage with a warm hug from the club president.
Palmer wins Golden Ball as individual awards handed out
Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Garcia wins the Golden Boot for his four goals and one assist.
PSG’s 20-year-old forward Doue is named the young player of the tournament, while Chelsea keeper Sanchez wins the Golden Glove.
Palmer, who scored twice in the final, wins the Golden Ball for the player of the tournament.
Trump headlines trophy ceremony
US President Trump, FIFA president Infantino, PSG president Al-Khelaifi and Chelsea’s owner Boehly are all making their way to the stage as the trophy ceremony kicks off.
Spectators at the stadium have their mobile phones in their hands, not missing any chance to capture the moment.
The trophy awaits Chelsea
With Freed from Desire playing on the loudspeakers at MetLife Stadium, Chelsea’s fans groove to the tune, getting ready to watch their team lift the Club World Cup trophy.
The monthlong 32-team tournament is coming to an end, with the Blues from London set to be crowned winners in a few minutes.
Presentation ceremony coming up next
The trophy ceremony will take place shortly.
The moment Chelsea and their fans have been waiting for is finally here.
But first, the Chelsea squad is welcoming the runners-up, PSG, with a guard of honour.
‘We won the game in the first 10 minutes’: Maresca
Chelsea manager Maresca, speaking to DAZN, said: “I have no words for the players. They all deserve this, and it’s a good moment.”
Asked about how they defeated PSG, he answered: “For me, we won the game in the first 10 minutes. We set the tempo, and we were very good at pressing them. The conditions made it hard to keep going, but the boys did well.”
Lastly, asked about his future, he added: “Of course I am very excited, but I’m more excited that we have three weeks off.”
‘Everyone doubted us before the game’: Palmer
“It’s a great feeling, even better, because everyone doubted us before the game,” Palmer told DAZN.
“To put a fight on like we did, it’s good.”
Asked about manager Maresca and what he has built at the club, Palmer said: “He is building something special, something important – a young team. Everyone has talked a lot of [redacted] about us all season, but I feel like we are going in the right direction.”
Chelsea win their second title of the year
Nearly a month and a half after winning the UEFA Conference League, Europe’s third-tier competition, Chelsea have been crowned the FIFA Club World Cup winners!
Before the final, the odds were heavily stacked against Chelsea after PSG’s dominating display in the semifinals against Real Madrid.
But Chelsea proved the critics wrong with a sensational first-half performance, which ultimately proved to be enough to seal the title.
Palmer named player of the match
For his two goals and an assist, England forward Palmer is named the player of the match.
He brought up his 18th goal for Chelsea this season with today’s performance.
