Palace face Newcastle away on Wednesday before hosting Bournemouth next Saturday.

Asked about what inspired City’s comeback from two goals down, Guardiola told TNT Sports: “Kevin with a free kick changed the momentum.

“We scored two and after the second half started, our next two goals were quick.

“If you see the chances that we had we could have scored eight or nine easily because we arrived in the final third, one against one with the keeper how many times? The work ethic, the way we played was really good.”

The reigning league champions will play away to Everton on Saturday.

The Toffees are 15th in the league standings.

“I’ve been here so long, my family’s been here 10 years, my kids were born in Manchester and live their whole life here,” said the Belgian.

“It’s going to be something different for them and I think they’re a bit scared … excited. It’s a big unknown because we don’t know what’s going to happen for the moment. I want to play good football like I did today but I’ll be fine. If I can play football and my family’s happy, I’m good.”

“It’s been a hard year. Having a hernia was not much fun but I’ve been pain-free for the past six weeks and that’s made a big difference,” De Bruyne told TNT Sports. “It was hard but now I feel free. I’m able to do a lot of training sessions.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen but I want to play on. We’ll see where I can end up.”

De Bruyne will leave Man City at the end of the season, having won 14 major trophies since joining City from Wolfsburg in 2015, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023.

“I think we started well, we had a couple of chances and out of nowhere we were two behind, it could have been three,” De Bruyne told Premier League Productions.

“We gave two or three chances away and they pounced on it. In the end, the reaction was really good.

“I think it was important to score as quick as possible to change the feeling of the game. We created a lot of chances today, and [despite missing Erling Haaland] scored five goals.”

“I don’t think we deserved to be two goals down. I missed a few chances early on and the game got away from us,” McAtee told TNT Sports.

“We were playing well, we knew the goals were going to come, and they did. We showed good character.

“Everyone was up for the game and we wanted to prove a point and show we were committed.”

Asked about scoring on his first Premier League start, the 22-year-old midfielder said: “I’m frustrated because I could have had more goals, but one’s enough, I’m happy.”

Kevin de Bruyne helped Manchester City stage a superb comeback from 2-0 down as he scored one and helped create two goals in an emphatic 5-2 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

Palace went 2-0 up in the first 21 minutes through Eberechi Eze and Chris Richards, but captain De Bruyne netted a free kick from 25 yards out in the 33rd minute and sent in the cross that led to Omar Marmoush’s strike three minutes later.

De Bruyne assisted as City took the lead through Mateo Kovacic 80 seconds into the second half, and James McAtee doubled their advantage from keeper Ederson’s long ball.

Nico O’Reilly added City’s fifth in the 79th minute as the champions provisionally climbed to fourth in the table, two points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea who have played a game less.

De Bruyne became just the sixth player to score 30 goals from outside the penalty area in the Premier League, while he netted his fifth direct free kick in the competition and first since October 2022 against Leicester City.

The victory puts City in the fourth spot in the league standings with 55 points from 32 matches.

They sit two points ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea, who host Ipswich Town on Sunday.

Fifth-placed Newcastle United are also two points behind City, but the Magpies have two games in hand.

Palace, meanwhile, remain 11th, with 43 points from 31 games.

Man City bounce back from two goals down to win 5-2 against Palace at home.

Goals from Eze (9′) and Richards (21′) gave Palace a solid early lead before De Bruyne (33′) and Marmoush (36′) put City back in the contest.

Buoyed by their confidence at the end of the first half, City returned in style in the second period, quickly going 3-2 up through Kovacic in the 47th minute.

McAtee netted on his first Premier League start in the 56th minute for City’s fourth goal before O’Reilly rounded off a “five-star” performance with a 79th-minute strike.

A second-half comeback from Man City, featuring goals from Kovacic, McAtee and O’Reilly, has led them to a 5-2 victory over Crystal Palace.

City midfielder Foden, absent from the matchday squad, is watching the game from the stands.
