Iran war updates: IRGC says 8 US military sites destroyed

Nabih Berri, the speaker of Lebanon’s parliament and head of the Amal Movement party, says the framework agreement signed this week between Israel and Lebanon is “contradictory and impossible to implement”.

“This agreement will not pass, and it will not be implemented in its current form,” Berri said in a statement shared by his party, adding that it was “an agreement of ‘dictates’, not an agreement that preserves Lebanon’s rights”.

“This agreement was designed to sow discord between the Lebanese, which I categorically reject.”

Foreign Minister Araghchi says Iran is ready to partner with Gulf states on regional security.

During a meeting with Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Aboudi, Araghchi said that Gulf countries should learn from the events of recent months and collectively decide on the region’s security architecture.

He added that any security pact should cover economic matters and that military powers from outside the region should be excluded.

Syria’s Foreign Ministry has condemned Israeli incursions into the southern Syrian provinces of Quneitra and Deraa, as well as artillery shelling in the area, which the ministry said “terrorised civilians”.

“The attacks constitute a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the ministry said in a statement shared by the SANA news agency.

“The continued attacks undermine efforts to promote security and stability, increase the suffering of civilians in the affected areas, and risk further escalation and tension across the region.”

Between 60 and 75 percent of journalists in Gaza have lost their homes or been forcibly displaced since October 7, 2023, the Freedoms Committee of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate says.

In a report titled “Media without walls”, it said approximately 265 journalists had been killed since the start of the conflict, one of the highest death tolls recorded globally against journalists in a single conflict.

More than 80 percent of media offices and institutions had been completely or partially destroyed, leading to an “almost complete collapse” of journalistic infrastructure, it said.

It added that journalists in Gaza no longer work from newsrooms but from tents, footpaths and shelter centres, with phones as their primary production tool and intermittent internet dictating when they can publish.

According to an Axios report quoting unnamed US officials, the US and Iran have agreed to end more than three days of retaliatory strikes in and around the Strait of Hormuz and engage in further technical talks on Tuesday in Qatar.

Earlier this week, US Secretary of State Rubio said the next round of technical talks was scheduled for Monday and Tuesday in Switzerland, but said he wasn’t 100 percent certain they would go ahead.

Now there’s this reporting that the talks will focus on freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a topic that Trump has repeatedly posted about.

He has repeatedly criticised the Iranians for allegedly trying to collect a fee from vessels transiting the strait, which would be a violation of the 60-day MoU. He has also threatened to restart military action against Iran if it doesn’t comply with the terms of the MoU.

It appears, at least for now, that both sides are returning to negotiations to try to establish a lasting end to the war.

Israel claims to have destroyed a Hezbollah underground facility in southern Lebanon, according to a ⁠joint statement by the Israeli prime minister and defence minister on Sunday on X.

It said that the alleged tunnel network was “over 200 metres long [656ft] and more than 25 metres deep [82ft]”, and contained “hundreds of combat means and several launch silos”. It did not provide any evidence to back up the claims.

Israel said it had notified the US and the American representative in Lebanon before the operation.

The announcement comes just days after a US-mediated framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon aimed at ending hostilities.

An Iranian official says Iran has cancelled its participation in technical talks with the US scheduled for Sunday, following recent attacks on the country and what it described as unfulfilled conditions under the MoU.

Mehdi Fazaeli, a member of the office for the preservation and publication of the works of Iran’s supreme leader, told state TV that Tehran did not take part in the negotiations due to the attacks by US forces and unmet commitments under the MoU.

Turkiye has condemned Israel’s decision to recognise the mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire during World War I as “genocide”, calling the move an attempt to divert attention from its actions in Gaza.

“The Israeli government, which systematically persecutes the Palestinian people in full view of the world and is being tried at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for genocide against the people of Gaza, aims to cover up its own crimes,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

More than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, according to Palestinian health authorities, including 1,041 since the so-called “ceasefire” in October 2025.

Beirut – After the governments of Lebanon and Israel on Friday signed a US-brokered framework agreement following months of direct negotiations, protesters took to the streets of the Lebanese capital to express their anger at the deal.

Many of the demonstrators waved Hezbollah flags, which has been militarily confronting Israel’s ongoing invasion and occupation of large swaths of southern Lebanon.

“After everything my family, my village, the south, and Dahiyeh have endured – the destruction, the displacement, the grief and the loss – it is incredibly difficult for me to accept an agreement with the same state that carried out the military actions that devastated our communities,” said Ali Zaytoun, a resident of Beirut’s southern suburbs, known as Dahiyeh.

Slovenia’s President, Natasa Pirc Musar, has told Al Jazeera that the war was a mistake and she thinks Trump realises that.

She also said:

• I commend Qatar’s role in mediating to stop the war and reach an agreement between Washington and Tehran.
• The EU appears diminished on the international stage due to the lack of unity in its foreign policy positions.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson says the national football team had shown resilience in the face of what he described as “inhumane and unprecedented pressures”.

“Neither did restrictions become an excuse, nor did pressures lead to submission,” Esmaeil Baghaei said in a post on X.

The statement came after Iran’s hopes of reaching the World Cup knockout phase for the first time came to an end following Austria’s match against Algeria.

The team’s campaign was complicated by a series of off-pitch difficulties. Uncertainty over visas and the ongoing US-Iran tensions meant the team had to commute from their tournament base in cohost Mexico for their three group games in the US.

US authorities required them to enter within 24 hours of their match and leave the same day.

Iran’s coach Amir Ghalenoei has called the US government’s treatment of his team “really terrible“.
