Kenya's opposition leader Raila Odinga says he is going to be sworn in as president of the 'people's republic' on Kenya's independence day, December 12.

Kenya's opposition leader Raila Odinga says he is going to be sworn in as president of the "people's republic" on Kenya's independence day, December 12.

He made the announcement on Tuesday while his supporters engaged police in running battles during the swearing-in of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Several people including a child were killed.

Al Jazeera's Catherine Soi reports from Nairobi.
