Should the EU sanction Russia?

The European Union is set to discuss the on-going crisis between Russia and Georgia. If Russia does not withdraw its last troops from Georgia soon, France, the current holder of the European Union's rotating presidency, considers sanctions against Russia. What do you think will be Russia's response to imposed sanctions? Will it help to resolve the conflict or deepen the tension between the West and Russia?
