Londoners gear up for Notting Hill Carnival

Londoners are preparing for the annual Notting Hill Carnival, one of the world’s biggest street festivals.

The event launched in the sixties as a celebration of Caribbean culture during a period of simmering racial tensions.

This year’s event has been dedicated to the victims of the fire at Grenfell Tower, which is located in West London where the carnival takes place.
