New Israeli security measures at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem have caused a confrontation between Israeli police and dozens of Muslim worshippers.
For Muslims, the installation of metal detectors at the compound’s entrance following a deadly shoot-out on Friday represents an Israeli attempt to change the status quo at al-Aqsa.
Many decided to pray outside the mosque compound in protest but were pushed away by the Israeli authorities.
Al Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett reports from occupied East Jerusalem.
