The strategic northern city of Aleppo remains the focus of the latest violence in Syria, home to some of the most devastating fighting seen in the last 18 months.

The opposition fighters' weapons are unable to protect them from attacks from the air, and such sorties are causing the most casualties among rebel ranks.
