Israel blocks Palestinian payments

PA employees unpaid as Israel withholds border taxes collected on authority’s behalf.

Gazans suffer from Israeli financial blockade

In Gaza and the West Bank, 170,000 employees of the Palestinian Authority (PA) have not received their salaries for the last week.

The PA is unable to pay them because Israel is withholding about $100m in border taxes and customs which it collects on behalf of the authority.

The Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah signed a unity deal last week and Israel says it will not give any money to a Palestinian government that includes Hamas.
