China could take top prize at Berlinale

Nine Chinese films are screening at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and three are in the running for the Golden Bear.

China has a number of films up for top prizes at this year’s Berlin Film Festival.

Three Chinese films are in the running for Berlinale’s top prize, the Golden Bear, and nine others are screening at the festival.

China’s movie industry is booming and even surpassing Hollywood in revenues.

Hit Hollywood movie Zero Dark Thirty made just under $120,000,000, but a Chinese movie like Lost in Thailand, made $100,000,000 more and it only screened in China.

Al Jazeera’s Phil Lavelle reports from Berlin.
