Five men charged with murdering Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya have appeared in court seven years after her death.

The award-winning newspaper reporter was killed in 2006 outside her Moscow apartment.

Politkovskaya, an investigative journalist, worked for the Novoya Gazeta newspaper and was best known for her reporting on the atrocities committed during Moscow’s war on Chechnya.

Al Jazeera's Gerald Tan reports.
